FUNDS
While security should be a given for any school, we recognize that security improvements sometimes require funds that school districts simply don’t have today.
Here are some creative and effective ways to raise money to enhance your school’s security, for the full financing opportunities package.
TRADITIONAL PAYMENT
1$ A DAY*
On a simple accounting setup, you’ll be paying the loan once a year and depreciating the product at the same time, so you can offset the cost. See page 8 for more IRS info

BANK FINANCING
Most schools operate on a tight budget but many schools are being creative in allocating funds from different areas of the budget

GRANT FUNDING
WHAT IS A GRANT?
A grant is a sum of money given by a government or other organization for a particular purpose. Basically, a government entity, whether federal, state or local, will designate funds through enactment of law to be awarded to school districts for a specific purpose, in this case, for school safety and security or target hardening.
- Federal Grants:
- COPS Grant - A competitive grant for municipalities/school districts countrywide. Up to $500,000 awarded yearly.
- School Violence Prevention Program ...
- Department of Homeland Security money allotted to states to distribute.
- State Homeland Security Program
- NSGP - Nonprofit Security Grant Program
- UASI - Urban Area Security Initiative
- Target Hardening Project - Hate Crimes

REFERENDUM/BOND
Using a referendum, a school can ask the residents of the town to vote on a single question that has been referred to them for a direct decision.

FUNDRAISING

SPONSORSHIP
When school funding fails to meet the needs of costly projects that depend on money from the budget, there is the option of procuring sponsors. Schools can find local and national companies and even residents and families willing to provide the financial help necessary. Some local businesses have marketing outreach funds and some give donations in order to promote their business and give back to the community.
